Uniform design is important in professional soccer as it not only provides teams with a distinctive identity and fosters team cohesion, but also ensures comfort and functionality for optimal performance. Well-designed uniforms contribute to both the visual appeal and practical needs of players during matches.

Setup

There is minimal set-up in this lesson. This lesson can be carried out over one day, or as a week/month-long project. It can also be assigned individually or as a group project.

Activity

Start the lesson by leading students in a short discussion to assess their prior knowledge using the questions provided or your own.
Discuss with students the significance of team uniforms in sports. Ask them if they have a favorite team and what they like about their uniforms.

Additional Activity

After designing their uniforms, students evaluate how well their designs would perform in real game conditions. Have students choose one design feature (fabric choice, color, pattern, or fit) and research how it affects performance, safety, or visibility in sports (e.g., breathable fabrics reduce overheating, high-contrast colors improve player recognition).
