Event overview

It is estimated over 3.5 million STEM jobs will go unfilled. As we assess the "why" behind this considerable shortage, it is not simply there is a lack of interest in STEM, but rather today’s youth and job force are not fit to fill the STEM openings, due to a lack of exposure and opportunities. According to a White House report, only 20% of US high school graduates are prepared for college-level coursework in STEM majors. STEM education is not readily available for many and is not being presented as a viable career path early enough in the lives of today’s children.

Science of Sport and the City of Inglewood Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department are committed to changing this reality for undeserved youth in our local community through the second annual Inglewood STEM Fest. The event will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Edward Vincent Jr. Park in Inglewood. The Inglewood STEM Fest will introduce STEM through several familiar sports to improve student interest and performance in math and science.

Together our goal is to:

1) Provide engaging activities that provide a measurable improvement in student appreciation of STEM and performance in math/science standards.
2) Build a community of K-6th grade STEM learners who will continue to pursue a career in STEM.
3) Increase access to STEM education for minority children.
